History
.
Dougherty's
Slider created in the Spring of 2004,
incorporates a technique used by Jessie
Stanislaw. One afternoon while on
Martha's Vineyard, I sat to tie sliders to
be used that evening. As I began,
Jessie, a long time Vineyard angler
suggested extending the body beyond the
hook's bend. Jessie added that feather
fouling would be reduced and normal or wide
gap hooks could be used. This made
sense and was similar to a technique used on
an injection-molded rubberized eel fly I had
purchased years before.
.
With this in
mind, my focus returned to the vise with the
intent of creating the fastest yet most
durable sliders I could. The result
was Dougherty's Slider, a pattern that
literally takes < 30 seconds to tie.
Epoxy is optional and adds to the tying
time. Due to time limitations, I
excluded epoxy on the original flies.
These flies still managed to survive several
stripers, however, epoxy takes the fly to
the next level by enhancing its looks and
its durability.
.
This is a fun to
tie fly. You'll be amazed at the
number you can tie in just a few minutes.
Try it in whatever color you prefer.
