- It had been a number of years since I had
done this last, but I fished PA's opening
day of trout. I chose one of my
favorite streams, Clark's Creek. A
size 16 olive Barr's Net Builder was a hot
producer. By 10:00, I had caught 6
(threw an 8" back) and lost 3
others. If you got out to fish, I'm
sure you'll agree.....it was cold, at least
colder than I'd thought it would be!
My truck's temperature gauge read 29 degrees
and my net was frozen stiff. Fish were
hanging to the bottom and fairly well camouflaged
in the faster water. I skipped the
pools opting for a little more peace away
from the crowds. I scouted the stream
the day before and noticed a couple
rises. The biggest trout I saw was a
rainbow over 20" and probably weighing
five pounds.

- I
checked-out Cedar creek located between
Muhlenberg and Cedar Crest colleges near
Allentown, PA. Cedar creek receives
less traffic than the Little Lehigh creek
due its smaller size and fewer number of
trout. The stream was clear and low
which caused the fish to be skitterish.
Suckers composed 90% of the fish I saw,
however, I did see one large brown trout
surface and one rainbow trout estimated to
be 17-18 inches. Included below are
some of Cedar creek's runs.

I
fished the Little Lehigh creek. The
Little Lehigh was slightly high and
moderately discolored and running at approximately
190 cfs. Fishing close to shore or
stagnant water was the best bet. I
fished standard trout flies resulting in a
few hits, but no hook-ups.
