19Jun06 - I
fished the Delaware River from 7:30 - 9:30
PM. Several smallmouth bass and suckers were
seen cruising the shallows. The bass were
aggressive and repeatedly hit my large
striper fly. I caught one striped bass that
measured approximately 20" using a 3/0 tan
Gummy minnow type fly with an intermediate
10 weight line. I tried a chartreuse and
white 2/0 Deceiver with no luck.

28May-06Jun06 -
I fished Martha's Vineyard, MA for 10 days. A majority of my time was spent fishing the
western side of the island, including
Dogfish Bar. I caught fish (stripers,
hickory shad and a few flounder) each
evening up to approximately 60 fish/night
ranging up to 36" inches. Nearly all fish
were 24" or less. I managed to drop one
large fish due to a poor hook-set. Flounder
ranged between 19 and 21". Juvenile sand
eels were thick close to shore. Hickory shad
were keying in on eels and were easy prey to
any small thin patterns (i.e. fly at the
bottom of this
page). To avoid shad I
predominately fished a 3/0 olive
Vineyard
Minnow with success. Squid were in and
easily caught in the evenings on high slack
tide at the Edgartown town dock. Sharks to 5
feet were swimming close trying for an easy
meal. Worm hatches were happening in the
Lagoon as well.
