- Wow, an excellent day of trout fishing. I
decided to fish a small steam by Cedar Crest
College and the Little Lehigh, both located
in the Allentown, PA area. The stream by
Cedar Crest College had no fishing pressure. Although narrow (at best 20 feet wide) this
stream supports a good population of brown
trout, roughly 5-9" in length. The trico
hatch was on and I managed one brown on a
size 20 comparadun trico. The Little Lehigh
creek was excellent and provided several
catches. Again a size 20 comparadun trico
prevailed. A size 16 black deer hair beetle
also was a good choice. I hooked and landed
approximately a 5 pound brown, truly a large
trout. For those of you wanting to try your
luck at him, go to the Kiddie Pool, go past
the pavilion and walk in the woods about 20
yards, look for the LARGE boulder half in
and half out of the water. I recommend 4x
tippet as he'll run downstream through the
fast water. Sorry no pictures, I was fishing
alone and I wanted to return the fish
quickly. Trico hatches at both places ran
the entire time I fished, 9:00 to 2:00. If
you're looking for tricos and don't see them
where you are, keep walking. Both streams
had good hatches but in localized areas.
